We are happy to announce that Horizon Animal Hospital is now offering acupuncture as a complementary modality to treat our patients!

Dr. Emily studied with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society and is excited to bring this treatment to the Horizon family. Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to treat many ailments. Recent studies using functional MRI have shown that stimulation of certain acupuncture points causes specific changes in the central nervous system. These changes result in the release of certain hormones, an increase in blood circulation, pain relief, and more!

Acupuncture, when used in conjunction with western medicine, can be used to treat musculoskeletal problems, traumatic nerve injuries, gastrointestinal disorders, and respiratory problems.

Acupuncture sessions typically last 30-45 minutes (depending on the patient), and the frequency of treatments depends on the ailment. The treatment itself is virtually painless, and most patients become very relaxed.

If you have specific questions about acupuncture or if it is right for your pet, Dr. Emily is more than happy to talk with you!
