Dr. Wendy Patterson

Veterinarian

Before becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Wendy Patterson spent almost 20 years working in the fields of human resources and business management. During that same period, she also owned an Arabian horse farm and bred and showed her horses. She reluctantly sold her last horse several years ago, but can usually be found enjoying the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show every year.

Dr. Patterson graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University in 2006. While attending Vet School, she also completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Veterinary Medicine. She practiced for one year in the Grand Rapids, MI area before relocating to Arizona, where she worked for several years in a busy, multi-doctor practice in Glendale before joining Horizon Animal Hospital in 2012. Her special interests include senior pet wellness, allergies and dermatology.

Dr. Patterson currently lives in Scottsdale with her husband and Australian Shepherd, Willow. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, spending time with family and friends, and has become an Arizona Diamondbacks fan since making Arizona her home.

Dr. Wendy Patterson
Horizon Animal Hospital

Hi, I'm Doctor Wendy Patterson!

I was born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana. When I became an adult, I moved to South Bend, Indiana and lived there for about nine years. While I was there, I became a horse owner, which was a lifelong dream of mine. Growing up, I had a dog and a cat, but I was a horse crazy kid! I got my first Arabian horse when I was in South Bend, and I went on breeding and showing Arabian horses for over 20 years. I had a lot of fun doing that!

After about nine years in South Bend, working in the business world and human resources, I moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I continued with equine and then began my journey towards getting into veterinary school at Michigan State. I graduated from veterinary school with my DVM in 2006.

I moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, about a year later. In 2012, I began to work at Horizon Animal Hospital and have been here ever since!

Along the way, I did end up finally getting out of horse care. It was a hard decision, but there's just no time!

After Dr. Beth decided to retire, Dr. Sean Penn and I became the owners of Horizon Animal Hospital. We hope we continue her legacy of great customer service and good care for your pets and our clients!

I have a special place in my heart for the older, senior pets. I want to make sure they have as good a quality of life and comfort as they possibly can. I also have a special interest in dog and cat allergies and skin issues.

We work as a team here to make sure that all of our clients and patients are well taken care of every day.

I look forward to seeing you as one of our clients! Or if you're already one of ours, thanks for checking in and learning a little bit more about me.
